Shaping the future of Newcastle

Performance

Newcastle is in the process of agreeing a refreshed set of short term priorities for the city.

In October 2010 the Government announced it would no longer monitor performance of the LAA and any targets previously agreed could be amended or dropped without Government approval.

Newcastle is in the process of agreeing a refreshed set of short term locally-agreed priorities for the city.

In addition, a revised approach to performance reporting has been introduced using the principles of outcomes based accountability (OBA) to provide a more rounded view of performance for a given area of activity.

OBA focuses attention on the outcomes or ‘conditions of wellbeing’ for the population of the city that services and agencies are working to improve, and allows the plans and objectives of each partner to be better focussed on delivering improved performance in that overall context.

The report is organised into:

  • Areas performing well
  • Areas improving well
  • Areas not performing well enough

Content for each of the areas above is structured around the city’s 7 strategic outcomes as set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy with clear references to lead Delivery Partnerships.

The city’s 7 Strategic Outcomes are as follows:

  • People are healthy
  • People are safe and free from discrimination
  • People have economic wellbeing
  • People enjoy a good quality environment in thriving neighbourhoods
  • People achieve learning potential, express creativity and enjoy culture
  • People make a positive contribution
  • People have dignity, choices and control
