Shaping the future of Newcastle

Environment, Housing and Transport

The overall aim of the Environment, Housing & Transport Delivery Partnership (EHTDP) is to coordinate the delivery of the Housing and Environment elements of the Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS) and consequent Local Area Agreement (LAA) targets and that the work of all partners in the City is these respects are aligned.

The objectives of the Partnership will be to deliver this aim by:-

  • Ensuring that the Sustainable Community Strategy fully reflects the contribution of environmental and housing issues;
  • Developing and monitoring indicators relating to housing and environmental issues and the targets related to them included in the Local Area Agreement;
  • Enabling the contribution of other Newcastle Partnership partnership boards, where a joint approach with the EHTDP will contribute to the effective delivery of Sustainable Community Strategy objectives.

The role of the partnership will be:

  • To influence, monitor and review SCS outcomes and LAA targets on Housing, Environmental and Transport matters;
  • To develop a work programme that will deliver the above through the co-ordination of task groups related to the Housing, Environment and Transport themes;
  • To direct and co-ordinate the work of these theme groups;
  • To interface with the Performance Planning Group on Environment, Housing and Transport issues.
  • To work closely with the Health and Well-Being partnership to ensure the two agenda’s are aligned

Partnership Links

The nature of the work of the EHTDP means that it will fit with, and complement, the work of all the delivery partnerships in the Newcastle Partnership: Safe Newcastle; Economy, Work, Skills and Learning; Children and Young People; Health, Wellbeing and Sport.

The main link will be with the Performance Planning group of the Newcastle Partnership to whom the monitoring of relevant targets will be made.

The Partnership will oversee and co-ordinate the work of a sub-group dealing with environment and climate change.

Newcastle has been crowned the most sustainable city in the UK for the second year running for our work in promoting and implementing a low carbon agenda.

We aim to build on our existing achievements by working to reduce energy use in the city and increase the use of renewable technologies and sustainable transport. We are committed to move ahead with our Climate Change Strategy and the work of the city’s Climate Change Partnership. To find out more click here thebiggergreenpledge
